By Dave Collins - I woke up this morning in a semi dream state imaging how chaotic our world is. I keep waiting for 'them' to right the ship, but I woke up startled with the realization, there is no 'them'. Most of our seasoned statesmen, that are no longer in government, will appear on TV to tell us how bad things are, but have no idea how to fix it. No one is in charge. Our country is in free-fall.
First, in my dream, I saw the US Congress as a room full of out of control monkeys The White House was not able to get anything done, the President can do little without Congress. When he tried to go around Congress, the monkeys would scream even louder, and throw food at each other.
Then, I thought there's always our legal system to keep things glued together, but I realized the legal system is being used, against itself with endless delays, by those charged. The Supreme Court is corrupt. They are making decisions based on politics, ideology and religious dogma while some jurists are taking perks from billionaires.
The military, who have known about the state of the world for a few years is only now realizing it's running out or ammo, and industry may take a couple of years to restock our supplies. The F-35 aircraft that the free world is using as their main fighting machine, is out of parts needed to keep them airborne.
The public is divided in every way imaginable, with custom, colorful sets of 'facts', and a distrust of science. Nearly half of the public is following a cult like leader, who very well might be elected president. A Third party candidate is running on a platform against vaccinations, and is amazingly polling at 20%.
On the globe scene, countries are turning hard right, electing autocrats. There is a great divide taking place between the major world powers that looks very much like a new cold war.
Meanwhile, the world is heading into a climate catastrophe. Everyone knows it, but gives it only lip service. We are sleep walking in the dark towards a point of no return, but we don't know where that might be. That point can't be soon, we tell ourselves, surely it is way down the road.
Did I mention that things are totally out of control, and no one is in charge!
