Guttenberg man dies in three car accident
 

Clayton County, IA - June 14, 2008 at 2:57 a.m. there was a three car accident on hwy 52 one mile North of Millville. An Oldsmobile Cutlass 4-door was being operated by Michael Clinton and had hit a guardrail, making the vehicle unable to operate. The occupants then called a tow service and did not contact Law Enforcement. 
 
While the tow service was parked in the roadway hooking up to the vehicle, a Chevy Silverado driven by Scott Willie (27) swerved to miss the tow truck that was in his lane and struck Daniel Rodriguez (20) and Michael Clinton (22) who were standing next to their vehicle. Both Rodriguez and Clinton were transported to Guttenberg Hospital and Clinton was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
 
On June 17, 2008 Clinton died of his injuries sustained in the accident. Assisting Clayton County was Guttenberg Police, Fire, and EMS. The Accident is under investigation by the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

Muscoda man dies after crash
 

Grant County, WI - June 13, 2008 at 11:35 p.m. - A motorist reported a two vehicle crash in Wingville Township at the intersection of Hwy. 18 and CTH G.
  The caller reported both vehicles were off the roadway and possibly three injured and one entrapped. Officers arrived on scene with Montfort Fire and EMS personnel to find two heavily damaged vehicles in the south ditchline.
  Shane Ellis, 22 of Lancaster (driver) and Chad Fledler, 22 of Stitzer (passenger) were out of their 94 Ford Explorer and Silvio Pozza, 72 of Muscoda, required extrication from his 97 Dodge Caravan.
  Fledler and Pozza were both transported from the scene to Grant Regional Health Care in Lancaster where Fledler was treated and later released, however Pozza was pronounced dead due to injures received in the collision.
  Details of the crash are currently under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol and not available at this time.


Head-on turning
 

Grant County, WI - June 12, 2008 at 5:20 p.m. A 2003 Avalanche driven by Julie Jennings, age 47 of Boscobel, was traveling north on US Hwy. 61 when she attempted to turn into a driveway.
  She failed to observe a 2003 Chevy S-10 driven by Richard Rice, 53 of Boscobel, traveling south on US Hwy. 61.
  The vehicles collided head-on. Both subjects were transported to Boscobel Area Health Care by Boscobel EMS.


Vehicle lands on roof, injuries
 

Grant County, WI - June 13, 2008 at 2:26 a.m. - At approx. 2:26 a.m. the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a motorist who located a vehicle on its roof on Hwy. 61 approx. 1/4 mile south of Stenner Hill Road.
  Deputies arrived on scene and found passenger Christopher Cornell of Boscobel, and Driver Brianna Ashley, of Middleton, both out of the vehicle.
  Information received was that the 1998 Oldsmobile Eighty-eight vehicle driven by Ashley was northbound on Hwy. 61 at 80 to 90 miles per hour and failed to negotiate the curve on Stenner Hill. The vehicle left the roadway into the ditch and collided with debris from a mudslide and continued in the ditch until it overturned possibly 2 to 3 times coming to rest on its roof along side of the highway.
  Ashley and Cornell were both transported to Boscobel Area Health care for treatment of their injuries. Ashley was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated - causing injury.
  At the time of this news release Cornell had been treated and released and Ashley was in stable condition.


Rear-ender
 

Grant County, WI - June 10, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. - A 2008 Chevy Aveo driven by Ellen Walz, 41 of Bloomington, was stopped on Hwy. 18 waiting to turn north onto Hwy. 133.
  A 1998 Ford Escort driven by Stacle Jones, 25 of Fennimore, was behind the Walz vehicle. Jones did not see the Walz vehicle stopped and collided into the back of the Walz vehicle.
  Ellen and Amber Walz, 15 of Bloomington, were both extricated from the vehicle. All three subjects were transported to Prairie Memorial Hospital.


Three teens injured in roll-over crash
 

Grant County, WI - June 6, 2008 at 4:55 p.m. - Tyler Clauer, 17 of Potosi, was driving a 1997 Dodge Dakota truck southbound on STH 81. When it was approx. 1/2 mile south of CTH Y, Clauer became distracted in the vehicle and the vehicle went off the paved portion of the road onto the right shoulder.
  Clauer overcorrected the vehicle, crossed the road and went off the road into the north side ditch. The vehicle overturned and then rolled 3 times before coming to rest in the north ditch on its roof.
  Robert Vogt, a passenger, 16 of Cassville, was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.
  All occupants were transported to Grant Regional Health Center. Vogt and Andrea School, 16 of Cassville, a passenger, were later transported to a Madison Hospital by Med Flight for treatment of injuries.
  Clauer had minor injuries and was treated and released. Scholl had back and chest injuries. Vogt had head, back and leg injuries.


Not the drive up window
 

Crawford County, WI - On Wednesday, June 4th 2008 at 3:15 p.m. Alex J. Doudna, age 22 of Gays Mills, was traveling north on STH 171, at the intersection of STH 171 in the Village of Gays Mills in a 1995 Mazda.
  Doudna lost control of the vehicle on a curve. The Doudna vehicle went off the right side of the roadway, through a yard and struck the Royal Bank building.
  Doudna was transported to Vernon Memorial Hospital by Ocooch Mountain Rescue to be treated for injuries received in the accident.
  Mr. Doudna was cited for Operating a motor vehicle while under the influence 1st offense, Operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, Failure to have control of motor vehicle and non registration of a motor vehicle. 


Truck hit bridge
 

Crawford County, WI - On Saturday morning, May 31, 2008 at 7:17 a.m.
  Jacob Bell, age 19 of rural Gays Mills, was driving a 1997 GMC pickup at 11:00 p.m. Friday night on Little Haney Rd., 1 mile east of Petersburg. Bell failed to negotiate a curve, his vehicle went across the roadway, hit a bridge reflective sign and came to rest on the driver’s side in a creek.
  Bell was not injured and walked from the scene. Bell was cited for failure to notify police of an accident and underage person transporting intoxicants.


OWI twice in one night
 

On May 30, 2008 at 10:22 p.m. - Grant County Sheriff’s Deputy Smith stopped Gene Geno, 51 of Benton, for a traffic violation and placed Geno under arrest for Operating while Intoxicated. Geno was transported to the Boscobel Police Dept. and the OWI process was completed. A party arrived at the Boscobel Police Dept. to take responsibility of Geno.
  A short time later, Deputy Smith was traveling south on Hwy. 61 and observed Geno and the responsible party parked behind Geno’s vehicle. The responsible party drove Geno’s vehicle into the Wayside at Hwy. 61 and CTH T.
  Deputy Smith turned around and observed Geno drive the responsible parties vehicle into the Wayside. Geno was then given field sobriety tests a second time. Deputy Smith placed Geno under arrest for OWI a second time at 11:42 p.m. on May 30, 2008.

Car misses deer, ends in culvert
 

On May 28, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. Devin Denman, age 17 of rural PdC was driving a 2001 Saturn car north on Bush Hollow Road when he swerved to miss a deer that crossed the highway.
 Denman’s car slid across the roadway, went over a cement culvert coming to rest in the culvert.Denman was not injured in the accident.


What happened to the accident?
 

Clayton County, WI - On May 29, 2008 at 12:41 a.m. there was a one vehicle accident on Hwy. 18 west of Postville.
  The driver of the vehicle, Ricky Delatorre, 45 from Postville, was investigated for being under the influence of alcohol. He was later arrested for operating while intoxicated, and there was marijuana found in his vehicle and on his person.
  Delatorre was transported to the Clayton County Law Center and charged with OWI 3rd Offense, Possession of Marijuana 4th Offense, drug paraphernalia, fail to maintain control, and driving while suspended.
